From scanning high-resolution half-tone and process color images to preparing Portable Document Format (PDF) files, our Prepress Department utilizes the best technology available to prepare the highest quality finished product.
Located in the heart of the Inland Northwest in Spokane Valley, Washington, Artistic Book and Web Design is a full-service pre-press operation specializing in book design, E-book formatting, magazine layout, journal production, and all areas of publication. Founder and corporate president Karen Jean Matsko Hood has over 25 years of experience as an author and publisher and has published more than 60 of her own books. With her knowledge and expertise in the publishing industry, she has developed an experienced team of copy editors, proofreaders, typesetters, and graphic artists. Artistic Book and Web Design's professional staff is also comprised of experts in computer hardware, off-the-shelf software and programming. Our extensive knowledge in dealing with the full range of printing requirements allows us to guide you through the production maze. We can inform you on the best way to prepare the material you give us so that your creativeness and vision can find the shortest path to the final finished product.
Some of our capabilities include: traditional typesetting, editing text, book cover design and page layout, half-tone scanning, color scanning, match prints, pagination, full postscript files, Portable Document Format (PDF) files, and Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML). We excel in project management—monitoring the entire development process, from manuscript editing using native application files, to final output in postscript, color separated or imposed film. Archival service for up to two years is also available as a service to our customers.
What You Will Need to Get Started
- Complete client questionnaire forms as provided during your consultation.
- Your manuscript should be in 8.5" x 11" double-space format with 1 1/4-inch left margin and a minimum of 1” top, bottom and right margins.
- Include page numbers in the header or footer.
- Do not use fancy fonts or colored text. Standard “Times New Roman” font is acceptable.
- Limit underlining and use of italics, except for internal character dialogue, where it is mandatory.
- Each chapter should begin on a new page.
- Clearly mark the beginning of each chapter with the appropriate chapter number.
- Typing should start 1/3 of the way down on the first page of each new chapter.
- If you cannot email us a copy of your manuscript, we can also scan your document for a reasonable fee.
- Service fees are subject to change at any time.
We ask that you do not send us your original manuscript to be edited. Send a copy only after you have reached an agreement with us. We do not want to store or handle your valuable work until we reach a signed agreement on exactly which services you wish to order from us. We want to make sure the expectations are clear on both sides so we have a productive long-term working relationship.
